The best gun belt for concealed carry
Quick answer: the Galco SB2 Sport Belt is our best gun belt overall for everyday carry: a 1.5 in, double-thickness steerhide holster belt with seven holes, per Galco, and the most reviewed belt here. If you would rather have no holes, the Nexbelt Titan PreciseFit EDC Gun Belt is a ratchet belt you cut to fit and adjust in 1/4 in steps. For appendix carry, Nexbelt designed the Nexbelt Supreme Appendix EDC Ratchet Belt around a compact buckle. For the office, the Galco SB3 Dress Belt puts dress edges on the same 1.5 in holster belt, and for 1.75 in holster loops there is the Galco SB5 Sport Belt.
How we know: this is a research-based guide, not our own testing. Specs come from Galco's, Nexbelt's and Bianchi's own product pages, owner opinions from every OpticsPlanet review on each listing, and the editorial mentions we could confirm in saved article texts (Shooting Illustrated, Athlon Outdoors) are named on the card they cover. No maker publishes a weight for these belts, so we print none.
A concealed carry belt has one job a regular belt does not: holding a holstered handgun close to the body without sagging or tipping. Width (it has to match your holster's loops or clip), construction (how stiff it is), the adjustment (holes or a ratchet track) and the maker's sizing method decide whether a belt does that for you, so the table starts there. Carry laws differ by state and locality; check the rules where you live before you carry.

Widths, construction, adjustment, buckles and sizing methods are the makers' own words from their product pages and FAQs. "Not published" means the maker page we read gives no value. Galco's sizing method applies to all of its belts here; buckle finishes are for the colour on each card. Confirm the current price and availability on the retailer page before you buy.
Our picks
Best gun belt overall: Galco SB2 Sport Belt, Black, Size 36
1.5 in · double-thickness premium steerhide, seven holes (Galco) · removable solid brass buckle: Galco says nickel-plated on black, the retailer lists brass · card: Black, size 36, SB2-36B
around $120exact price on OpticsPlanet
Our pick for most people who carry a holstered handgun every day on a leather belt. Galco calls it the SB2 Casual Holster Belt and describes a 1 1/2 in, "double-thickness holster belt is made with premium steerhide", with seven holes and sizes 32-54. Galco's own FAQ puts the SB2 in its line of heavy duty holster belts, built from two layers of steer hide, as opposed to its single-layer pants belts. On the buckle the sources differ: Galco gives a brass buckle on tan belts and a "Nickel-plated buckle on black and havana brown belts", while the retailer's spec table lists a brass buckle and its photo of this black belt shows a brass-coloured one, so check the buckle finish on the retailer page before you order. Shooting Illustrated's Eric Conn included it in a 2021 gun belt feature in which each belt was worn in everyday carry and tested at the range, and Athlon Outdoors' William Bell used an SB2 with outside-the-waistband holsters in two revolver reviews, writing that it "offers great support". On OpticsPlanet, 26 of the 70 reviews praise how it carries a holstered gun without sagging or twisting; the most common complaint is size, with 14 owners writing that it ran small or that they ordered larger than their pants size.
Pros
- Two-layer leather holster belt: "Double-thickness premium steerhide" with seven holes (Galco)
- The largest sizes on this page, up to 54 in (Galco)
- Removable solid brass buckle (Galco); Galco says nickel-plated on black and havana and brass on tan, the retailer lists brass
- Worn and range-tested in Shooting Illustrated's 2021 everyday carry belt feature (Eric Conn)
Cons
- Sizing trips owners up: 14 of 70 write that it ran small or that they had to order up
- Stiff when new: one 2-star owner writes it "Took about a year to break in", and another lists "Stiff construction" as the con
- One owner finds it "thick so most clips do not fit on it easily"; another calls it "Too heavy for dress pants"
- Galco publishes no weight, thickness or inner stiffener for it
Best for: everyday concealed or open carry on a 1.5 in leather belt, with jeans or casual clothes. Measure an existing belt the way Galco describes before you order.

Best ratchet gun belt: Nexbelt Titan PreciseFit EDC Gun Belt, Black, 1.5 in
1.5 in nylon microfiber strap, near 3/16 in thick (Nexbelt) · ratchet track, 1/4 in steps · one strap, cut to fit, up to a 50 in waist (Nexbelt) · card: Black, PCS2672
around $65exact price on OpticsPlanet
The pick if you want a belt with no holes. Nexbelt's PreciseFit ratchet lets you "adjust the fit in ¼-inch increments", and the strap is one size that you cut to fit, up to a 50 in waist. Nexbelt describes the 1 1/2 in strap as a super-high-density microfiber, an advanced composite of ultra-fine polyester fibers, about 3/16 in thick, and its FAQ says the belt "uses a reinforced nylon core that stays firm under weight and does not stretch out over time". Two of the 17 OpticsPlanet owners tell a different story about the inside: one writes that "the inner PLASTIC stiffening band snapped in half" after several months, and another that "the plastic liner cracked right in the middle of the back" after about six months. We print both, because we cannot tell from the sources how often that happens. The buckle is powder-coated granite black, held by 2 stainless steel set screws rather than pins, per Nexbelt; one owner had a hinge screw back out and says the company sent a new buckle. The other owners praise the stiffness and the quick adjustment, and none reports sag.
Pros
- Ratchet adjustment in 1/4 in steps instead of holes (Nexbelt)
- One strap cut to your size, up to a 50 in waist (Nexbelt)
- Owners call it stiff: one lists "Stiff enough for full size handgun", and none of the 17 reports sag
- Buckle held by 2 stainless steel set screws, not pins (Nexbelt)
Cons
- Two of 17 owners report the inner plastic band or liner breaking, though Nexbelt describes a "reinforced nylon core"
- One owner had a buckle hinge screw come out and leave the belt unusable until Nexbelt replaced the buckle
- Cutting is one-way: an owner found two cut suggestions (pants size plus 2 in and plus 4 in), and Nexbelt's page gives no cut length for the Titan
- The release lever takes getting used to, two owners say; Nexbelt publishes no weight
Best for: someone who wants to tighten or loosen the belt through the day, as Nexbelt describes, rather than pick a hole. Cut long first; you can trim more later.

Best ratchet belt for appendix carry: Nexbelt Supreme Appendix EDC Ratchet Belt, Black, 1.5 in
1.5 in nylon microfiber strap (Nexbelt) · compact 1 1/2 x 1 11/16 in buckle, push-button release · 1/4 in ratchet steps, cut to fit · card: Black, PCS6830
around $65exact price on OpticsPlanet
Nexbelt's answer for carrying in front of the hip. Its page says "We designed a belt for appendix wearers", with a compact buckle, 1 1/2 x 1 11/16 in, that it says frees up space in front for a handgun and spare magazines and can be worn front center, on the left hip or near the back. The strap is the same 1 1/2 in microfiber as the Titan, with a hidden ratchet track for 1/4 in adjustments, 3 set screws in the buckle and a push-button release. Nexbelt is the only maker on this page that gives a cut length: find your pant size on the scale on the back of the belt and add 3 to 4 inches before cutting. Its OpticsPlanet rating rests on only nine reviews. Owners like the stiffness and the low-profile look, but one appendix carrier warns that "the buckle can definitely scratch the finish of an optics housing if you wear the buckle centered", and another moves the buckle to the left side for the same kind of carry.
Pros
- "We designed a belt for appendix wearers" (Nexbelt): a compact buckle that can sit front center, on the left hip or near the back
- Push-button release and 1/4 in ratchet steps (Nexbelt)
- The only cut length a maker gives on this page: pant size plus 3 to 4 in (Nexbelt)
- One owner says it "Looks great on a pair of jeans and NOT like a “gun belt”"
Cons
- Only 9 OpticsPlanet reviews, so the rating rests on little
- One owner warns the buckle edge can scratch an optic on an appendix-carried pistol when worn centered
- One owner reports "PRC" marked on the inside of the belt; Nexbelt publishes no country of origin or weight
Best for: appendix carry, if you want the buckle small or off to one side. Check where the buckle sits against your optic or slide.

Best dress gun belt for the office: Galco SB3 Dress Belt, Black, Size 38
1.5 in · double-thickness premium steerhide with step-skived edges (Galco) · seven holes · removable buckle, nickel-plated on black (Galco) · card: Black, size 38, SB3-38B
around $120exact price on OpticsPlanet
The SB2's dress counterpart, for a holster belt that has to pass with slacks. Galco calls it the SB3 Dress Holster Belt: 1 1/2 in wide, "Double-thickness premium steerhide" with "step-skived edges for a true dress belt look", seven holes and a removable solid brass buckle that is nickel-plated on black belts. Galco lists sizes 32-46. Its 64 OpticsPlanet reviews mostly back the dress-plus-carry idea: one owner calls it "rigid enough to use as a gun belt", and another writes "I put two holsters and a double mag pouch on it with no problems". It is not unanimous on stiffness, though. One 1-star owner writes that "The leather is soft and does not hold up to the weight of a loaded sidearm", and another finds it "Not as stiff as those with a steel insert". The other recurring complaint is the finish: three owners say it wears or scuffs, one where the holster attaches.
Pros
- Dress edges on a two-layer holster belt: step-skived, feather-edge construction (Galco)
- Seven holes and a removable solid brass buckle, nickel-plated on black (Galco)
- Owners carry full-size guns on it: one owner's "government all steel 1911"
- 64 OpticsPlanet reviews, 54 of them five stars
Cons
- Finish complaints: one owner writes "Dress quality finish deteriorates after a couple of wearings", and another that it scuffs where the holster attaches
- Not every owner finds it stiff enough: one 1-star review calls the leather soft
- Sizing: several owners advise ordering one size up; one bought a 36 and returned it for a 38
- Galco publishes no weight, thickness or stiffener
Best for: office or business-casual carry where the belt has to look like a dress belt. Size it with Galco's measuring method, not your pants size.

Best 1.25 in dress gun belt: Galco SB1 Dress Belt, Tan, Size 32
1.25 in · double-thickness premium steerhide, feather edges (Galco) · seven holes · removable solid brass buckle on tan (Galco) · card: Tan, size 32, SB1-32
around $55exact price on OpticsPlanet
The only 1.25 in belt on this page, for dress pants with narrow loops. Galco describes the SB1 Dress Holster Belt as a "1 1/4" wide reinforced dress belt designed to support the weight of a handgun", in double-thickness premium steerhide with feather edges, seven holes and sizes 32-46. The retailer adds "Fiber reinforcement between leather layers"; Galco calls it a reinforced dress belt but does not say with what. On this listing the belt comes in black or tan only, though Galco also makes havana brown; the tan card has Galco's solid brass buckle. All 10 OpticsPlanet reviews are five stars, but they are short: one owner calls it "stiff enough to support a fullsize handgun", and one wrote that it ran a little small. Check that your holster's loops or clip fit a 1.25 in belt before you choose it.
Pros
- The only 1.25 in belt here, "designed to support the weight of a handgun" (Galco)
- Feather-edge dress look on a two-layer steerhide belt (Galco)
- Seven holes and a removable buckle (Galco)
- One owner says it is "stiff enough to support a fullsize handgun"
Cons
- A 1.25 in belt will not fill 1.5 in or 1.75 in holster loops; check your holster first
- Only 10 OpticsPlanet reviews, most of them short
- One owner writes it "Ran a little small"; another lists "No buckle choice" as the con
- Black and tan only on this listing; "fiber" reinforcement is the retailer's word, Galco says only "reinforced"
Best for: dress pants with narrow belt loops, with a holster made for a 1.25 in belt.

Best contoured leather gun belt: Galco CB3 Concealable Contour Belt, Black, Size 32
1.5 in tapering to 1 in at the buckle (Galco) · double-thickness premium steerhide, contoured · removable nickel-plated solid brass buckle · card: Black, size 32, CB3-32B
around $150exact price on OpticsPlanet
A full 1.5 in where the holster rides and a slimmer front. Galco's Concealable Contour belt is "1 1/2" wide tapering to 1" at buckle", in double-thickness premium steerhide, "Contoured for superior comfort", with a removable nickel-plated solid brass buckle in black or havana brown and sizes 32-46. Galco classes it as a dress holster belt. The taper also changes the buckle: one owner replaced the original buckle with a fancy turquoise one on the tapered end. Of its 28 OpticsPlanet reviews, 25 are five stars, and owners describe it as dressy and stiff, though one finds it is not a dress belt but works well with jeans. Two owners say they wore one for many years: one writes "This is now 5 years old and is in perfect condition", and another has had one for over 20 years. Galco does not say how many holes it has.
Pros
- 1.5 in body for 1.5 in holster loops, tapering to 1 in at the buckle (Galco)
- "Contoured for superior comfort" (Galco); one owner calls it "the most comfortable gun belt I have ever used"
- Removable buckle (Galco); owners have swapped in their own
- Owners report long service: one at 5 years "in perfect condition", one over 20 years
Cons
- Sizing is the repeated complaint: one owner writes "The size seems about 1 inch small at first"
- The front narrows to 1 in, so anything you clip near the buckle sits on a 1 in belt
- One owner says "Needs a better looking buckle."
- Galco publishes no hole count, weight or thickness
Best for: a leather gun belt that keeps full width at the holster but a slimmer, dressier front. Follow Galco's sizing instructions.

Best wide leather gun belt (1.75 in): Galco SB5 Sport Belt, Tan, Size 40
1.75 in · double-thickness premium steerhide, seven holes (Galco) · brass-colored buckle on tan (Galco) · card: Tan, size 40, SB5-40
around $160exact price on OpticsPlanet
For holsters and pouches cut for a 1.75 in belt. Galco's SB5 Casual Holster Belt is a "1 3/4" wide double-thickness holster belt made with premium steerhide", with "Seven holes for wide adjustment range" and sizes 32-46; tan belts get a brass-colored buckle and black belts a nickel-plated one. The retailer's two descriptions name the leather differently, so we use Galco's. Owners praise its stiffness under a heavy gun: one writes that "The holster & gun do not sag or lean" with a 1911. The trade-offs show up in the same reviews. Several owners say it runs small and to order the next size up, one notes it needs pants with big belt loops, and one long-term owner writes "The stitching failed and the two pieces of leather split apart after wearing it every day for just 19 years."
Pros
- Full 1.75 in width for 1.75 in holster loops (Galco)
- Two-layer steerhide with seven holes (Galco)
- Owners report no sag under heavy guns: "No slippage or sag."
- Long service: one owner used their first SB5 from 1996 and bought another only after a dog chewed it
Cons
- Needs wide belt loops: one owner advises "just make sure your pants will fit it"
- Several owners say it runs small; one writes "they run smaller than you might think - order the next size larger"
- Three owners find it less stiff, lighter or thinner than they expected, one saying "Galco has obviously cut back a little on materials."
- Galco publishes no weight or thickness
Best for: outside-the-waistband carry of a heavier handgun with 1.75 in holster loops, worn with jeans or work pants that have big loops.

Best wide leather gun belt with decorative stitching: Galco SB6 Fancy Stitched Belt, Tan, Size 36
1.75 in · double-thickness premium steerhide, decorative fancy stitching (Galco) · seven holes · solid brass buckle on tan (Galco) · card: Tan, size 36, SB6-36
around $150exact price on OpticsPlanet
The SB5's width with a Western look. Galco describes the SB6 as a "1 3/4" wide, double-thickness holster belt is made from premium steerhide with fancy stitching", with seven holes, even sizes from 32 to 46 in, and a solid brass buckle on tan that it says is cast in its in-house foundry. Galco's own pitch is that it "combines classic Western looks with all the sturdiness needed for all-day handgun carry!" Galco also makes it in black, but this listing sells it in tan only. All 23 OpticsPlanet reviews are five stars; owners praise the stitching and the support for a heavy sidearm. The cons come from inside those reviews: one owner found the belt too thick for most western cowboy buckles, one says it is "A LITTLE SHORT", and one notes the price.
Pros
- 1.75 in two-layer steerhide with decorative stitching and seven holes (Galco)
- Solid brass buckle on tan, cast in Galco's in-house foundry (Galco)
- All 23 OpticsPlanet reviews are five stars
- An owner writes "this belt cannot be beat for toting the heaviest sidearm"
Cons
- Tan only on this listing
- Too thick for many aftermarket buckles: one owner says it "makes most western cowboy buckles not fit"
- Needs 1.75 in holster loops and wide pant loops
- One owner calls it "Pricey but worth every penny"; Galco publishes no weight
Best for: outside-the-waistband carry with 1.75 in loops when you want a Western-style stitched belt, in tan.

Western ranger belt, not a dedicated gun belt: Bianchi B4 Ranger Belt, Basket Tan, Brass Buckle, Waist 34 in
1.75 in, unlined full grain cowhide (Bianchi) · Western billet design, 1 in buckle · card: Basket Tan, brass buckle, waist 34 in, item 12076
around $65exact price on OpticsPlanet
We include it to be clear about what it is. Bianchi describes the B4 as a Western billet belt of vegetable tanned full grain cowhide, "unlined and is 1.75" (45mm) wide", with a 1 in buckle in solid brass or chrome plated brass, plain or basketweave finish, in sizes 32-46. Bianchi's page does not describe it as a holster belt, and an unlined belt is not the two-layer construction the Galco belts here use. One owner calls it heavy enough to carry a sidearm; others disagree about the leather, and the recent reviews are the harshest. A 1-star owner in 2026 says the material "resembles rubber more than it does leather", two reviewers report a Made in Mexico marking, while other owners, including one in December 2025, praise the tooling. Sizing is the other hazard: the retailer says to specify your exact waist size, Bianchi says to order two inches over your pants size, and three owners ended up with a belt that was too small.
Pros
- A 1.75 in Western billet belt that takes a 1 in buckle (Bianchi)
- Vegetable tanned full grain cowhide, oil tanned (Bianchi)
- Plain or basketweave finish, brass or chrome buckle (Bianchi)
- One owner calls it "Heavy enough to support carrying a sidearm"
Cons
- Unlined, and Bianchi does not present it as a holster belt; the weakest gun-belt case on this page
- The lowest OpticsPlanet rating here, with complaints about the leather and tooling in 2025 and 2026 reviews
- Sizing advice conflicts between the retailer and Bianchi, and three owners got a belt that was too small
- Bianchi publishes no thickness, weight or country of origin; owners report a Made in Mexico marking
Best for: a Western-style everyday belt, not a holster belt for a heavy handgun. For carry, the two-layer belts above are the better match.

Ratchet or leather: which concealed carry belt?
The two kinds adjust differently. Every Galco belt here with a published hole count has seven holes, and Galco writes that "A tighter belt helps prevent holster sag and wobble that comes from the weight of a defensive handgun". Nexbelt's ratchet belts have no holes: you cut one strap to length and the track moves in 1/4 in steps, which Nexbelt pitches against fixed holes that "often fall between ideal positions". Sizing follows from that. A leather belt is ordered in one exact size, so you measure first; a ratchet strap is cut once, so you cut long and trim later.
Owners point to different weak spots. On the ratchet side, two of 17 Titan PreciseFit owners report the inner plastic band or liner breaking, one had a buckle screw come out, and one Supreme Appendix owner warns the buckle can scratch an optic. On the leather side, the most common SB2 complaint is size, and one owner writes that it took about a year to break in. None of our sources measured sag or stiffness, so we do not pick a winner: choose by how you like a belt to fit and adjust.
How to choose a gun belt for concealed carry
- Width first. Match the belt to your holster's loops or clip. Most belts here are 1.5 in, the Galco SB5, SB6 and the Bianchi are 1.75 in, and the Galco SB1 is 1.25 in. Galco's 2025 IWB holster guide says "The UniClip fits belts up to 1 3/4” wide.", while its 2020 guide listed 1 1/2 in, so check which clip your holster has.
- Construction. Galco makes its holster belts from two layers of steer hide and its pants belts from a single layer. Nexbelt describes a microfiber strap, and the FAQ on its Titan page a reinforced nylon core. The Bianchi B4 is unlined.
- Adjustment. Holes (Galco, Bianchi) or a ratchet track in 1/4 in steps (Nexbelt). See the section above.
- Sizing. Use the maker's own method. Galco: measure an existing belt from the end of the buckle to the hole you use, while wearing your inside-the-waistband holster. Nexbelt: cut to fit; for the Supreme Appendix, pant size plus 3 to 4 in. Bianchi: two inches over your pants size. Owners of the SB2, SB3, SB1, SB5, CB3 and B4 report ordering too small.
- The buckle. On Galco belts the finish depends on the colour, and the buckles are removable. Nexbelt's buckles are held by set screws. For appendix carry, a smaller buckle or one worn off center leaves room in front.
- Weight. No maker page we read publishes a weight for these belts.
How we chose these
This is a research-based roundup, not a hands-on test. We started from the gun belts the retailer sells, carded one exact colour and size on each listing, and read the maker's own product page and FAQ for each belt. Where the retailer and the maker disagree (size range, buckle finish, leather wording), we print the maker's version. We read every OpticsPlanet review on each listing. For our top pick we checked each editorial claim against the saved article text; we found no "best" label for any belt here that we could confirm, so we print none, and we count one author's articles as one verdict. There is no editorial score on this page; our picks are our opinion. See our methodology for how we work.
FAQ
What is the best gun belt for concealed carry?
From the evidence we read, the Galco SB2 Sport Belt for most people: a 1.5 in, double-thickness steerhide holster belt with seven holes and sizes 32-54, per Galco, and the most reviewed belt on this page. If you want a ratchet instead of holes, the Nexbelt Titan PreciseFit adjusts in quarter-inch steps and is cut to fit. For appendix carry, Nexbelt designed the Supreme Appendix around a compact buckle. For dress clothes, the Galco SB3 has step-skived dress edges on the same 1.5 in width.
Is a ratchet belt or a leather belt better for concealed carry?
Neither is better for everyone, and none of our sources measured it. A ratchet belt like the Nexbelt Titan has no holes: you cut one strap to fit and adjust it in quarter-inch steps, which Nexbelt says lets you tighten for support or loosen when seated. A leather holster belt like the Galco SB2 is ordered in an exact size and adjusts by its holes. Owner reviews show different weak points: two Titan owners report an inner plastic band breaking, while leather owners mostly report sizing mistakes and a stiff break-in.
What width should a gun belt be?
Match the belt to your holster's loops or clip and to your pants' belt loops. Most belts here are 1.5 in, the Galco SB5 and SB6 are 1.75 in for wider holster loops, and the Galco SB1 is 1.25 in for narrow dress loops. Clip limits vary by holster: Galco's 2025 IWB holster guide says its UniClip fits belts up to 1 3/4 in wide, while its 2020 guide listed 1 1/2 in.
How do I size a gun belt?
Follow the maker's own method, because they differ. Galco says to measure one of your existing belts from the end of the buckle to the hole you use, and to take that measurement while wearing any inside-the-waistband holster or magazine carrier. Nexbelt's ratchet belts are one size that you cut: for the Supreme Appendix, Nexbelt says to find your pant size on the back of the belt and add 3 to 4 inches before cutting. Bianchi says to order its leather belts two inches over your pants size. Owners of several belts here report ordering a size that was too small.
What makes a gun belt different from a regular belt?
Stiffness and construction. Galco separates its heavy duty holster belts, made of two layers of steer hide and designed to carry the weight of a handgun, from its pants belts, which are a single layer of leather. Nexbelt says its microfiber strap gives the stiffness needed for holstering a handgun and lists holster sag and belt flex among the everyday carry concerns its Titan strap addresses. Galco notes that a tighter belt helps prevent holster sag and wobble.
Which belt is best for appendix carry?
Nexbelt built the Supreme Appendix for it, with a small buckle that can be worn front center, on the left hip or near the back. One owner warns that the buckle can scratch an optic on an appendix-carried pistol if worn centered, and another moves it to the left side. Owners of the Nexbelt Titan PreciseFit also report appendix carry with it.
